STANDOUT STATS

2025

JJ is in full swing of college baseball for the Milwaukee School of Engineering.  Games and stats available on their web page and links on this site.  In 2025, JJ showcased his skills both at the plate and on the mound, contributing significantly to the team's success.  JJ was one of only a handful in all of college baseball to have a home run, a save and a pitching win.

MSOE's record was 6-10 in the middle of a double header vs. St. Norbert in conference play. They had just lost a tough game to a team that was picked to finish low in the conference. For the second game of that double header JJ was put in the starting lineup. JJ hit a homer to take the lead in that second ball game and he didn't look back. Since JJ was entered in the starting lineup at that point in the season the team went on a 23-8 run to finish 29-18. JJ went into the MSOE record books with a 5 steal game vs. North Park.

Season Highlights:

- 1 of just 4 freshman in conference to be recognized with a post season award.

- MSOE with back-to-back regular season championships

- Team wins conference tournament to advance to NCAA tournament

- Team wins first ever games in the NCAA tournament to advance to Sunday's championship game

JJ's versatility and athleticism were on full display throughout the season, making him a standout player in his debut collegiate year.

In the summer, he played for the Alton River Dragons in the Prospect League.  This was a great adjustment to playing against the highest competition he has ever played against.  The Prospect League is a mix of Division 1, 2 and 3 baseball players from around the country.  JJ pitched very well showing off his velocity.  If you subtract a couple of bad innings from the summer season JJ's ERA would be under 3.

2024

JJ met his goal of being all conference in basketball in addition to leading his team to back to back conference champions.  He finished 2nd in assists all time at the high school for a season.  In baseball, the team peaked out at top 20 in the state with JJ leading the way on the mound.  He had one of the most dominant seasons in high school history with 55 strikeouts in 53 innings and a 1.53 ERA only giving up 12 earned runs all year and giving up only 20 walks.  Every game he was not pitching he started at shortstop and played great defense earning him his second consecutive all conference selection in NLCC baseball.

During the summer he played for the West Allis Nationals in the Wisconsin State League.  In that short season JJ pitched very well going from youngest guy on the team to first one out of the bullpen.  JJ was nominated for rookie pitcher of the year in the league by his coach.

2023

Basketball has begun and JJ will come in as the starting point guard of the varsity basketball team at Lakes.  It should be a fun year where the team will try to repeat as NLCC champs.  His goal is to be all-conference this year so he can be all-conference in two sports.  For updates on his basketball season follow his twitter.

JJ in the summer was with Illinois Lightning Lutz 17U team which is the best travel team in the region.  (Northern Illinois)  Looking forward to 6-7 tournaments of very high level ball. For his schedule click on "Schedule" at the top.

JJ ended the school season batting just under .350.  OBP .461.  Lots of doubles and triples.  Lots of shots off the wall.  Started every game at shortstop and pitcher.  Highlights of the year were a 1-0 pitching shutout in Missouri where he led off the game with a double and scored the only run and then shut down the other team for 6 innings.  The other highlight was a complete game shutout against Grant who went on to win their regional.

Winter Illinois Lightning workouts are completed.  JJ had a great varsity basketball season.  Made the local paper a few times and even made the Chicago Tribune once.

JJ comes in as the incumbent starting shortstop for his junior year.  He may get some playing time at catcher as well.  He has been named the opening day pitching starter.  He is up to 85 mph off the mound.  The team is scheduled to travel to Joplin, Missouri for their Spring Break to play some games in warmer weather.  There is some engineering schools that potentially could be interested in JJ playing baseball for them in college.  This is going to be a fun, interesting season.

2022

JJ finished the year on the varsity basketball team.  Now JJ is the starting shortstop for the Lakes Varsity baseball team as a sophomore.    For travel season he is slated to split time between shortstop and catcher 65/35.  He is consistently facing 80 mph and above pitching and is adjusting and improving each game.  JJ started all but one game at shortstop for Varsity and became a defensive cornerstone of a very good team as a sophomore.  After struggling offensively early, JJ turned it on for the second half of the season.  Missing homeruns by just a few feet at three different ballparks.

For travel ball, JJ split time between Shortstop, Catcher and Pitcher.  He led the team in innings pitched, fielding assists, runs scored, doubles and several other categories.  JJ hit two homeruns during the travel season and had several game winning RBIs.    JJ has solidified himself as one of the best of the best in the area and is looking forward to adding on muscle weight with a nutritionist and turning those doubles into homeruns.

2021

Playing mostly at shortstop for the Lakes freshman team JJ batted .536 on the year.  He had 30 hits in 56 at bats.  As a freshman, JJ got the opportunity to be on the varsity squad for 6 games.   JJ batted in the three hole all year and if he wasn't playing shortstop he was pitching, catching or playing second base.  He had two games where he pitched three innings giving up no runs.  He worked on arm strength and getting better at charging balls and throwing off the run.

In travel ball, out of the leadoff spot, JJ batted .317 with a .434 on base percentage.  He was second on the team in hits and led the team in walks.  Pitching he was 3 and 1 with a 3.12 ERA.  While he was catching he threw out 27% of runners.  The team won one championship out of the six tourneys they competed in.

In Fall ball for the Lightning, JJ hit out of the leadoff spot and led the team in hits, OPS, slugging, doubles, triples and runs.  He actually hit more doubles and triples than singles during fall ball.  He played about 50 percent of the time at catcher and 50 percent at shortstop.  One crazy stat is JJ threw out 6 of the 7 runners that tried to steal against him during this short season.  He batted .455 with a 1.375 OPS and .848 slugging.

2020

This season JJ batted 2nd again most of the year with only 5 strikeouts all year against tough competition with a 93 percent contact percentage on his swings. He learned to hit the ball to right side when man on 2nd to advance the runner and did that 8 times.  This was his first year playing middle infield more than catching with about a 20/80 ratio.

He threw out 27 percent of runners trying to steal against him.  He led the team by turning 4 double plays at SS/2B and 1 at catcher.  At JJ's last attended showcase they measured his pop-time at catcher at 2.09 to finish top 10 at that event.

2019

JJ batted 2nd most of the year and led the team in doubles, HBP, XBH, BB/K. He had only 6 strikeouts all year with a 93 contact percentage on swings. In the field he split time 50/50 between catching and shortstop while leading the team in putouts.

He finished the year with 21 percent of runners thrown out catching.

Batting 1st or 2nd all year, JJ batted .400 and finished 2nd on the team in hits.  He had the least strikeouts on team with a 90 percent contact rate on swings and was 2nd on team in steals at 30.  JJ split time between shortstop and catching with 22 percent of runners thrown out catching.  Led team in fielding assists and putouts (2nd in fielding percentage).
